1/16/2024 0 Comments Download color finaleI mean they even used the same stills and video examples in some of the marketing for Cinema Grade, that they used for Color Finale Pro. Why spend all the effort changing the name unless it was to hit up all the existing customers for another buy? Would have been more efficient to keep it under the CFP brand name. Good product, bad business strategy, bad branding. Now they release an enhanced color grading plug-in under a different name, and want another $150. I bought the passport just to use with this app, because they didn't release it for the Color Check Video. When I purchased CFP, it was in anticipation of those features you mentioned that never happened. Meanwhile a new app by the same developer appears with an alternative approach to color grading.Įxactly. Not even for its big brother the Color Checker Video. Expanding the chart matching feature beyond Color Checker Passport Video never happened. There were features like tracking that never materialized. I think there is a believe that Color Finale is nearing End of Life. And if they are smart, they should just combine them into one product, and support the one application.or plugin. In my opinion, they should offer an upgrade path to Color Finale customers, and by upgrade path, I mean it should be a different price for existing Color Finale users. Word of mouth is a lot more valuable than any other form of advertising. They trust you, liked your product/service enough to buy it, and will be some of your biggest advocates and promoters. Why? Because these customers already bought from you before. Successful companies spend 80% of their time and resources taking care of existing companies. Here's one of them: Most companies that fail spend 80% of their time and resources chasing new customers, and 20% on keeping the ones they have. Anyone who's been in business will know the 80/20 rules. But for me this is just Color Finale II with a new name and rebranding it as Cinema Grade and not offering some kind of loyalty incentive to color finale customers is bad PR and bad CRM. It's their business and they can set the model they want to follow. Some developers charge for upgrades, some don't. I guess I just feel like this is a very similar product to color Finale, and should have just been an upgrade. It's the only plugin I own that has crashed after updating versions in final cut pro, at least in the last five years. Not trying to be argumentative, but there is a big splash on the main page that says: "Cinema Grade Plugin"Īs for the app situation, Color Finale installed as an app too, but was really a plugin. If there was, they'd have offered it already. I wouldn't think there needs to be an upgrade path. Adding built in Video Noise Reduction is also in that category as Resolve has that feature.Īll that said, it would be nice if ColorGradingCentral had a customer loyalty "reward" for those who may want to consider Cinema Grade.Ĭinema Grade is not an upgraded version of Color Finale, thus, why would there be an upgrade path? It is a new app (not a plugin) written from the ground up. Add tracking and a visual display of LUTS (both Color Finale and Chromatic do that) seems to be the next logical step forward in FCPX. They have some "philosophical" differences in approach but I think Apple has good motive to advance the grading features in FCPX and the Comparison Viewer is good step forward. I think FCPX is evolving in color grading much as Resolve is evolving as an editor. I do think improvements in FCPX has impacted Color Finale and maybe Coremelt's Chromatic as well.Ĭhromatic still has a built in tracker but I can't help but think that will be inn FCPX 10.5. Whereas, over time, there's more duplication between Color Finale and FCPX's own grading tools, Cinema Grade offers a very different approach. I do think Cinema Grade has a somewhat different target market. The issue is whether they have the resources to support both Color Finale and Cinema Grade.
